- Electrical and site work. This is normally the largest part of the cost. Running conductors, upgrading a panel, trenching, and connecting to the property’s existing electrical capacity is where most of the labor and expense goes, and it varies a lot by building.
- Permitting and inspections. Building and electrical permits, utility interconnection paperwork, and inspections add a smaller but real cost, and timing here is one of the biggest factors in how long a project takes.

How most Poweral installations avoid this cost entirely
Most Poweral clients on Long Island and in New Jersey don’t pay the costs above directly. Poweral’s no-cost installation model runs the project through the local utility’s make-ready incentive, which covers the electrical infrastructure work:
- PSEG Long Island: up to $6,500 per port through the utility’s Make Ready program.
- PSE&G (New Jersey): up to $7,500 per port, for up to 4 ports per site.
Poweral also takes on projects that don’t use these incentives in both markets, ground-up builds or property owners who’d rather pay directly, but that’s a minority of the work. From a signed agreement to a working charger, Poweral projects typically take 3 to 6 months. The range depends on utility approval timelines and local town permitting, both of which are largely outside any installer’s control and vary by municipality.
Where incentives currently stand
- Long Island: PSEG LI is the active program, and it’s specifically what Poweral’s no-cost model runs through here. The rest of New York doesn’t currently have an active rebate in place, so it isn’t a market Poweral is focused on for this program right now.
- New Jersey: PSE&G territory is where the no-cost model applies. Properties outside PSE&G’s service area would fall under the paid, non-incentive path instead.
- Federal: there is currently no federal grant or tax credit available for the type of commercial installations Poweral does.
The equipment we use
Poweral installs Level 2 commercial chargers from two manufacturers: the Tesla Universal Wall Connector and Autel’s commercial chargers. Which one gets used depends on the program and the state:
- Long Island, PSEG LI no-cost installs: Autel only. This is a requirement of the rebate program, not a Poweral preference.
- New Jersey: either Autel or the Tesla Universal Wall Connector, depending on the property and the vehicles it needs to serve.
- Any project paid for directly, without incentives, in either state: any charger Poweral or the customer prefers, since the equipment restriction only applies to the incentive-funded programs.
